To my dear friend Alyssa Kunkel, Congratulations on your engagement, and may God bless the two of you with many wonderful years to spend together…

A true friend will let you complain about your husband (in your case husband to be!) and still tell you how awful and inconsiderate you’re being in the same situation! You will come to them with concerns about your marriage and leave feeling “in love” with your spouse all over again. A meeting with this friend will be filled with the Holy Spirit and mutually building up in faith, in love, and in understanding. They will keep you accountable in regards to your purity and your walk with God and always seem to fit into that place in your heart where you never knew what was missing. You don’t have to talk to them all the time to know that they’re there for you. You don’t feel the awkward need to carry on a conversation because you’re comfortable just to sit and think. They’re always looking out for your best interests because they’ll love you with a kind of love you might not have experienced before, God’s love. This. This is what a true friendship looks like, not like all those silly posts on Facebook! A God honoring friendship will be a friendship that resembles the friendship that Paul and Barnabas shared.

I am so very blessed to share a friendship like this.

I am so encouraged to see the step of faith Alyssa and Jordan are taking to be joined as one and I am so blessed to be able to watch them grow in their marriage and to celebrate with them along the way. It is so beautiful to plan and to watch a wedding unfold according to its original purpose. I am so excited to witness and to hold them accountable to the path God has chosen for them.

…for we are members of his body. “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.

Ephesians 5:30-32

It is a tall order to represent the relationship of Christ and the Church. And yet, this is what marriage is all about. Are you up to the challenge?

Congrats again guys! Love you both! 🙂
